Design and build a modular LED wall in which each pixel is a miniature frosted umbrella, lit from behind in soft pastel tones.

How We Made It Work
We created a layered structure from CNC-machined Dibond, folded around an aluminium framework. The umbrellas were vacuum formed from frosted acrylic and pushed through the CNC-cut holes from the rear, then held in place by a sheet of clear acrylic.
We used powerful 4W-per-pixel RGBW LEDs in this installation. They required careful power management and fusing, but gave beautifully soft pastel tones not normally seen from LEDs.
The construction was made modular so a two-person team could install it easily, and the piece was driven by an Enttec S-Play controller located in the room behind the wall.
