Amalgam was tasked with manufacturing this project, which presented several challenges. The materials had to transmit light effectively and be fire-rated, while the lighting needed to be both discreet and powerful enough to achieve the client’s desired effect. Additionally, we required a framework that was structurally sound yet lightweight, so as not to detract from the overall aesthetic. To meet these requirements, we constructed the structure from thin steel rods that were powder-coated to match the fabric colors, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the canopy. Discreet pin-spot LEDs were used, with color-matched cabling integrated along the structure to ensure no wiring was visible. The steel frames were designed as modular units and reviewed by a structural engineer, resulting in a smooth installation process.
