Amalgam was commissioned by Basha Franklin to design and fabricate a suspended feature light positioned above the bar area within the Velonetic space at Lloyd’s of London.

The light was designed to mirror the geometric tiled bar construction beneath it, creating a cohesive visual connection between the two elements. To achieve this, we used T-slot aluminium extrusion, which was rolled to form the required profile. This approach allowed us to utilise existing fittings at the top of the extrusion to suspend the structure directly from the ceiling slab.

The aluminium extrusion provided exceptional rigidity, enabling the light to maintain a slimline and discreet appearance. To complement the aluminium frame, we incorporated Dibond, an aluminium composite sheet material also prized for its strength and stability. The Dibond panels were offset from the supporting structure, exposing only a 5 mm visible edge, which helped create the illusion of a refined and delicate form despite its robust construction.

The piece was built in modular sections with prewired plugs on the LEDs, allowing for quick and straightforward assembly on site.
